In the Observation round (round one), the contestants were thrown straight into the quiz show environment and challenged to go outside and observe the area surrounding the gallery. Each contestant was given a map of the streets adjacent to Aspex, and asked to select one thing that they wanted to 'spot' during the allotted time slot. They then had to document their object in some way, keeping in mind that they were being marked on the number of objects spotted and the imaginativeness of their documentation method.
